Medical Visa for India (Indian Visa for medical needs)
Medical visa in India is issued to those foreign nationals who want to visit India solely for treatment of serious ailments in recognized hospitals/medical centers.
Neuro surgery, ophthalmic disorders, congenital disorders, organ transplantation, renal disorders, cardiac problems, plastic surgery, radio-therapy, joint replacement etc. would come under serious ailments. However, the list is not exhaustive.The patients need to produce a medical certificate from recognized hospitals or medical centre in India, indicating the dates, place and duration of treatment.The initial period of visa will be up to one year or the duration of treatment, whichever is earlier. The visa will be valid for up to three visits during one year.MEDICAL VISA FOR ATTENDANTMedical attendant visa is for attendant or family members of the patient coming for treatment. Maximum two attendants are permitted. The duration of visa is co-terminus with the visa of the patient. A certificate from recognized hospitals/medicals in India to the effect that assistance of one/two attendants is needed should be produced. The names of the attendants should be mentioned in the letter.
Medical visa is issued under the following conditions:
The Indian mission abroad will examine the medical documents carefully to satisfy themselves about the purpose for which treatment in India is requested.
The Mission will also ensure that the applicant has sought medical advice from his country of origin for specialized treatment in India.
After the scrutiny the case is considered for medical visa.
EXTENSION OF MEDICAL VISAMedical visa is issued for one year or for the duration of treatment, whichever is less. However such visa can be extended for one more year by the state government/FRROs if a medical certificate/advice is produced from the reputed hospital/medical centre.Further extension can be granted only by the Home Ministry at the recommendation of state government/FRROs on proper medical documents. Such extended visa will be valid for maximum three entries during one year. State government can permit one additional entry in case of emergency.It is compulsory for foreigners coming on Medical Visa to get themselves registered with the concerned FRROs/FRO with 14 days of arrival in India.
